Christoph Both

Christoph Both has toured internationally as a founding member of Sanctuary, the Acadia Trio and Pacific Arts Trio, performed with the Arthur LeBlanc String Quartet, the Saint John String Quartet and New Music Victoria. For two years he was cellist with the State Theatre Orchestra in Giessen, Germany, and has performed with the Victoria Symphony, and Symphony Nova Scotia. Christoph is a sought-after string clinician and music festival adjudicator, and is founder of the The Acadia Summer Strings Camp and founder and president of the Annapolis Valley String Association.
Christoph has recorded for CBC Radio, commissioned and premiered many Canadian works and his strong commitment to contemporary music and improvisation has also led to involvement with the Upstream Orchestra, where he performed as both conductor and principal cellist; the Paul Cram Orchestra, and Sanctuary with Peter Togni and Jeff Reilly.
Continued funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Council of Canada has allowed him to research and create innovative string instrument instruction software modules to support teaching strings in remote locations.
Presently full-time faculty at the School of Music, Acadia University, his responsibilities have included directing the string music program, the Acadia University Orchestra, and the foundation of the B.A. Music Technology program for which he received the Year-2000 Acadia University President’s Award for Innovation.
