Workshops

suddenlyLISTEN's Improv Workshop, now in its seventh season of meetings, is based on the long-standing London, UK workshop facilitated by Eddie Prévost. At these workshops participants are offered a safe and non-judgmental atmosphere in which they are encouraged to push their musical limits and make music outside of their personal comfort zones.

sL sessions take place alternate Monday evenings, and are led by Tim Crofts and Norman Adams. Often we invite local improvisers to lead as guests, or when guest artists are in town, we'll invite them down, to give their input as well. Past leaders have included, Eddie Prévost, Ken Aldcroft, Marilyn Crispell and Lukas Pearse.

During the workshops, participants are divided into various sized groups to improvise short pieces for each other. Some comments may be made, if desired, but listening and learning from other players is the main focus.

All people who are interested in making free music are encouraged to attend, regardless of experience, or musical ability: just bring yourself, an instrument if you need one, and your open ears and wide open mind! It's a great chance for improvisers, both new and more experienced to get together, work together, listen and learn from one another.

suddenlyLISTEN's Improv Workshops begin September 19th at 1313 Hollis Street in downtown Halifax - At the corner of Morris, and Hollis Streets. Sessions run from 7:30 to 9:30, and cost $5.
