suddenlyLISTEN Music is seeking proposals for our Artist-In-Residence Program for the Winter/Spring of 2022.

This Artist in Residence call is particularly devoted to Canadian IBPOC Artists. We as an organization are committed to engaging with a diverse artist community and are encouraging peoples from marginalized and intersecting identities, including but not limited to BIPOC, Queer, and/or Disabled artists, to apply. The committee will be taking any identity you specify in your application into strong consideration during application assessments.

suddenlyLISTEN will accept proposals from all established and emerging artists who maintain forward-looking art practices driven by sound and improvisation.

Deadline for Application is: Feb. 6th, 2022 (Notification of results: February 15th, 2022)

Our Mandate

suddenlyLISTEN, based in Halifax, Canada, exists to present concerts and other events that extend the boundaries of music, music creation and sounding arts. We create spaces to allow both musicians and non-musicians to listen to, explore, and participate in the making of new music and sound.


What We Do

We produce and present of a series of concert-collaborations in Halifax

We tour our favourite collaborations to other national and international centres

We develop, and support others to develop creative work including performance projects, research and recordings

We develop and lead community outreach including workshops and creation sessions for artists, young people and others

We produce New Musings on New Music, a podcast that features conversation with new music creators.
