About the Event
In Flickering Cotillian, Collateral’s album release show, we introduce suddenlyLISTEN audiences to two new artists and bring back one of our favourite trios to release a new recording. Sam Shalabi returns to Halifax as part of Collateral with Norm Adams and Tim Crofts. Their newest recording, Flickering Cotillian, has been out for a while, but it’s only now that we can grab Sam to play thanks to his international touring schedule.
Deniz Tafaghodi is new to Halifax but not to noise and sound artists across Canada. Her work is an electroacoustic performance exploring materiality, memory, and gradual transformation through the sounding of a broken clay pot. The fragments have been reimagined as an instrument, one that continues to change through each performance and disappears through use.
Charles Harding is a Fredericton-based sound artist who will use hundreds of field recordings to document the sonic stories of a 140-year-old building, Fredericton’s Charlotte Street Arts Centre. The performance is meant to push beyond passive hearing, encouraging deep listening as a way of engaging with our surroundings and the textures they hold.
Admission is $25 or pay what you can at the doors.
