suddenlyLISTEN is proud to present the international improvising trio NYX in Halifax! This dynamic trio will perform April 8 at The Music Room, 6181 Lady Hammond Road in Halifax. The show starts at 7:30 and admission is $25 or pay what you can, with tickets available at the door.
After performing at the ArtActs Festival in Austria: critic Miha Zadnikar wrote: “We are unsure whether the music of the trio….”comes from heaven or hell”. Agnel tickles the ivory dives deep into the piano’s guts and finally offers us a special voyage to space. Duthoit first screams, cries, gargles and curses, then grabs her clarinet only to wring and stretch it, producing sounds which, eyes closed we cannot discern from her own voice. And finally, Castelló, an amazing sound designer, adding electroacoustic pearls to this masterful ménage a trois. Witchcraft!”.
Strata from Halifax, creates live installations of always evolving sound. They will provide a colourful introduciton to NYX.
NYX is on a Canadian tour sponsored by the Embassy of France. It marks the return of Isabelle Duthoit who appeared here on suddenlyLISTEN’s series in 2018, and it is the first time sL has presented an artist from central America. We’re pretty excited about this show!
