About the Event
suddenlyLISTEN will present a live concert of the music of 2020 Sobey Art Award long list artist, Lou Sheppard. This presentation will take place at 7:30pm, Thursday, April 15, at The Presbyterian Church of St. David, 1544 Grafton Street in Halifax. Admission is $20 or pay what you can.
Lou is a Canadian artist working in interdisciplinary audio, performance and installation-based practice. They have exhibited work both in Canada and internationally, and have participated in residencies throughout Canada, in Europe and in the US. Sheppard’s artistic research reflects their background in critical theory and social activism. They are interested in languages, both as systems of notation and communication, as well as systems that structure and enact power. Using processes of metaphor, translation, semiotic shift, and close reading, their work is evidenced through written, graphic and visual scores.
Interpreting these scores will be exceptional musicians from a broad swath of Nova Scotia’s music community: Gina Burgess (violin), Derek Charke (bass flute), Clare MacDonald (percussion), Jackson Fairfax Perry (saxophone and synthesizers) and Norm Adams (cello).
