April Shows, not Showers

This post is the next in the series of suddenlyLISTEN's email reposts!

Adams, Baroni, Crofts

As easy as 1,2,3... 8pm, Wednesday, April 5, 2017 The Presbyterian Church of St. David 1544 Grafton Street, Halifax $20 or PWYC, available at the door

Surprise! Here's a concert that has popped up for you all to enjoy: A mixed bag of new pieces, and new collaborations: Nicola Baroni is an Italian cellist who specializes in improvisation, contemporary music, and electroacoustic composition. Nicola is visiting Halifax, so we grabbed him to play a concert! He will be playing cello duos with Norm Adams, (some improvised, some processed and some scores) and we can't wait to hear the results! Our own Tim Crofts will open the concert with a set of solo piano music as well. Tim has been focusing on his solo work of late, and we know the music will be strong, clear, and virtuostic. Come hear our variety show!

Andrew MacKelvie with Haley and Pearse: April 10 @1313 Hollis

8pm Monday, April 10 at 1313 Hollis St. $20 or PWYC

Andrew MacKelvie is a saxophonist you hear in Halifax just about every time you turn around. He plays with funk bands, soul bands, Klezmer bands, improvising bands, with dancers, and as a soloist. Andrew was nominated for a Juno Award for his playing on Gerry Granelli's What I Hear Now. He works hard, and we have listened to him develop in leaps and bounds over the past 2 years. Monday, April 10, he will join up with sL's favourite bassist Lukas Pearse and guitar maestro Geordie Haley for an evening of fresh, spontaneous, and musical fun!

Great Workshops Coming!

Monday, April 3 we will welcome Nicola Baroni to lead an improvisation workshop at 1313 Hollis. He will demonstrate his hypercello processing system. Nicola teaches improvisation at The Monteverdi Conservatory in Bolzano, so don't miss this one! Friday, May 5, the great Susan Alcorn will lead our final professional workshop of the season. Come out and learn stuff with us!

nücello

Another concert not to be missed is nücello, India Gailey's concert of new pieces for solo cello, at 1313 Hollis, May 2. India has been sL's intern this year and is an artist on the rise, heading to Montreal next fall for more study. Catch her before she heads to the big city!
